Okay Ladies, Let's Get Real About Our Bodies - Imperfections and How They Don't Matter!
Everyone is nervous before their Boudoir Session, and this is totally natural. This is uncharted territory for most of us, who are used to only getting down to our "knickers" in front of our significant others. I get it, trust me! Do you know what the number one worry ALL my clients have, regardless of if they are 25 years old or 65 years old? I'll give you one guess...
"...but what about all of my imperfections?"
Yep...everyone is worried about what they feel are "imperfections". This could be anything from stretch marks to a little extra skin, pesky "blemishes" or even scars. Every single Lady who comes into my studio is worried that the parts of herself she's most uncomfortable with will stand out and overshadow anything that could possibly make her look beautiful. But let's get real for a minute, Ladies..."imperfections", we ALL have them.
I have a 9 inch "L shaped" scar running down the front of my shin from a horseback riding accident, and I've always been self concious of it. I also have a mole on my knee that to me sticks out like a sore thumb screaming like a banshee every time I put on a bathing suit, but you know what? Pretty much every single person that I meet tells me they didn't even realize I had those things. Sure, they're there, but they aren't that noticeable, and they certainly don't define my beauty. I also have a few stretch marks along my hips because my weight has fluctuated over the years. I feel like I they are painted hot pink and stand out like tattoos, but in reality, they aren't a big deal...most people don't even notice them!
I Get it, Though...We Want to Look Our Best
Even though these things we worry about ourselves probably aren't NEARLY as big of a deal as we make them out to be, there are some things that we just don't "love", and I GET THAT. It's my job to GET THAT. This is exactly why you're coming to me as a Boudoir Photographer, because I know how to take those "imperfections" you're so focused on and turn them into things you either don't even notice or that you don't see in your photos at all. It all starts with posing and lighting...I've had extensive training in this stuff, Ladies. I know exactly how to "light you" so that wrinkles, stretch marks, blemishes, extra skin, etc., are reduced (or hidden completely) right off the bat. It's a skill that I've worked really hard to master, and it's WORTH IT!
Can You Photoshop Me?
Can I Photoshop you? Of course. I'm a Photoshop guru...if I wanted to I could give you a Unicorn's horn and put you in a meadow of magical flowers. The real question is "Will I Photoshop you?". The aswer is yes...to a degree. My mission is not to turn you into a plastic Barbie Doll in your Boudoir Photos, it's to show you how amazing you look naturally...well, naturally with a little extra "glam". BUT, I do go over each photograph to remove things that are "temporary" completely (acne, bruises, lines, scratches, etc.), and to "smooth" things that you would consider "imperfecions" to a point that they don't look "fake", but rather naturally unnoticeable. I give your skin a gentle smoothing and a beautiful glow so that your Boudoir Photographs look like something from the pages of a magazine.
I also fix any lumps or issues with the curvature of your body that is caused by posing. Let's face it, Ladies, when we lay down in a certain position our body can look KILLER, but our boobs might not have the roundness that they would in other positions or we could have a stray line or lump in an odd place...so I will bring that back - not adding EXTRA, simply giving you a little lift and smooth.
You ARE PERFECT Just the Way You Are, But...
Yes, you are perfect just the way you are - when you wake up in the morning with "Flock of Seagulls" hair, yoga pants, no makeup, etc. You are beautiful. That doesn't mean, that it's not empowering, confidence boosting and just plain FUN to get all glammed up and look your absolute best in front of the camera. That's why I call my "Before and After" photos "From Everyday Beauty to Glam Goddess"...because you are beautiful each and every day; a Boudoir Session just brings out that little bit of "extra" that we all need from time to time. Think about it as the difference between throwing on your workout clothes and taking the kids to school vs. getting dressed up in a cocktail dress to go out with your significant other or the girls (with the perfect professional hair and makeup and coaching to show your best angles at all times)...it's just "extra", it doesn't make you a different person. It's still ALL YOU, 100%!
Trust Me and You WILL NOT Be Disappointed
So to end this little foray into our insecurities, I only have one thing to say...trust me. I've had tons of education in Boudoir Photography. I've photographed over 100 women in the last year in a Boudoir setting. I've edited countless photos and they ALL turn out to be magazine quality, incredible depictions of exactly who you are as a woman. Don't worry about what you consider to be "imperfections"...MODELS HAVE IMPERFECTIONS, LADIES, AND IT'S THEIR JOB TO LOOK PERFECT. If you don't love your butt, I'm going to make sure that you do before you leave the studio; if you think you don't have a flat enough stomach to look sexy, I'm going to prove you wrong and show you just how gorgeous you truly are.
